Two alumnae are celebrating book releases that have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to Jewish scholarship and literature. Darshanit Miriam Udel ‘19, Director of the Tam Institute of Jewish Studies at Emory University, published Modern Jewish Worldmaking Through Yiddish Children’s Literature, exploring how Yiddish stories and poems for young readers shaped secular Jewish identity and values across the twentieth century. Rabbi Dr. Wendy Zierler ‘21, who teaches modern Jewish literature and feminist studies at Hebrew Union College–JIR, released Going Out with Knots, reflecting on mourning her parents through engagement with modern Hebrew poetry. Both books were named to the shortlist for the 75th National Jewish Book Awards by the Jewish Book Council, and Darshanit Miriam’s book won the award for Education and Jewish Identity.
