Overview
Tuition and Living Stipends
Maharat invests in students by fully covering the cost of all tuition and fees and by providing full-time and many part-time students with living stipends. Maharat is committed to making our Core Semikha and Beit Midrash programs financially accessible.
Interest-free Loans for In-Person Students
The Hebrew Free Loan Society offers interest-free training and certification loans to defray costs for students residing in New York City while studying in-person at Maharat.
North American Fellowship Opportunities
The UJA Graduate Fellowship is for rabbinical and other students enrolled in Jewish graduate programs who are dedicated to pursuing a career in a Jewish Federation or other Jewish communal organization in North America. This is a multi-year fellowship.
The Nachshon Project Graduate Fellowship is for rabbinical and other students enrolled in Jewish graduate programs who are dedicated to pursuing careers that serve the North American Jewish community. This multi-year fellowship is for people with three to ten years of Jewish professional experience. Fellows are required to work in the Jewish community for one and a half times the length of their graduate program.
Students in their final two years of Maharat’s Core Semikha program are eligible to apply for the one-year Fellowship for Rabbinic Entrepreneurs, a program within Hillel’s Office of Innovation. This fellowship rewards creativity and innovation in the rabbinate and provides coaching to assist the fellows in actualizing their projects.
Additional Sources of Income
Many students work part-time and in the summers to supplement their Maharat stipends. The global Maharat student and alumnae communities share tutoring, job, fellowship, and grant opportunities with each other on a regular basis.
