Arieh Scharnberg

Beit Midrash Program, Class of 2025

Scharnberg

Arieh Scharnberg was born in Israel, raised in remote northern California to an unaffiliated rabbi father and music teacher mother, Arieh David Scharnberg's Jewish path continues to reflect this broad and unique background. In order to complete his BA in Environmental Studies at Prescott College ('07), Arieh conducted a semester-long study in Israel on Shnat Shemittah in the modern state. Arieh made aliyah in 2012 after completing an MA at the University of Paris in Sustainable Business Management. During the decade plus of residence in Israel, Arieh worked for various non-profits and businesses, ranging from agriculture, to politics, to administration for the Porter School of Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University. In 2018, Arieh became enthralled with the Jewish history of the Caucasus and through support from the Diarna Geo-Museum documented sites of Jewish historical geography in Azerbaijan previously unreported in academic literature. He currently helps manage a nation-wide Jewish teen environmental fellowship known as Einayich Yonim and works as a private tutor for Jewish youth. Arieh is a lifelong musician with a love of music as a form of cultural and spiritual expression. When he's not studying or working with youth, Arieh can be found (or hard to find) immersed deep in remote wilderness, hiking, climbing, and skiing.
